RedKen Fall 2011 Milan Fashion Week Trend Report: Ponytails at Prada

From glamorous updos to simple ponytails, hairstyles at the Golden Globes were sleek and on-trend. Makeup was pretty and natural with the emphasis on eyes: dense lashes and liquid liner. Here are our top 10 looks from the night.

  • Backstage at the Prada Fall 2011 Fashion Show

Backstage at today's Prada show in Milan, Redken Creative Consultant Guido Palau created a girly ponytail clipped with a barrette at the nape of the neck.  Guido explains the look as "a nod to Catherine Deneuve in the '60s—very young, exuding innocent sophistication." Keep reading for more info on how to get this casually chic look and for more backstage photos from the Fall 2011 Prada Fashion Show.

    How to Create the Look
    1. Create two parts above the brow and section away a small section of hair at the top of the head.
    2. Pull all the hair back and secure with a long silver barrette right at the base of the neck for a flat pulled back ponytail. Texturize the pony a bit using Redken Forceful 23 Super Strength Finishing Spray (hairspray) to create a natural texture. Pull out one-inch pieces just in front of the ears and let them hang naturally. Cut these pieces to shoulder length if needed.
    3. Spray hairspray into your hands and work sectioned off pieces back to meet with the ponytail but not secured into the barrette. Pin this top section at the back of head to hold until you're ready to go out. Continue layering generous amounts of hairspray to keep the top section in place and pulled back away from forehead.
    4. Just before you are ready to go out, remove the clip holding the top section and spritz with even more hairspray.
